A wave of new medical spas is reshaping the beauty landscape in Wichita, bringing clinical treatments once associated with big-city dermatology offices to storefronts and downtown suites across Kansas's largest city.

The med spa model blends traditional salon pampering with services overseen by licensed medical providers, from injectables and laser skin treatments to microneedling and body contouring. Owners say demand has grown steadily as clients seek results-driven treatments closer to home.

"People used to drive to Kansas City or Dallas for these services. Now they can get them here," said the operator of a new downtown clinic. Industry professionals emphasize that reputable med spas operate under medical supervision and proper licensing.

Buyer beware

Consumer advocates and licensed practitioners caution that the fast-growing field has also attracted under-qualified operators, and they urge clients to verify credentials before booking. State regulators have taken a closer look at oversight as the sector expands. For now, the boom shows no sign of slowing, with several more openings planned across the metro this year.
