Wichita Suppliers Rebuild Resilience After Supply Chain Shocks

Aerospace suppliers across the Wichita region are rebuilding resilience after years of supply chain disruption exposed the fragility of the just-in-time systems the industry had come to rely on.

Shortages of raw materials, specialized parts, and skilled labor rippled through the aviation supply chain, delaying deliveries and forcing manufacturers to rethink their sourcing. In response, suppliers are diversifying vendors, carrying more inventory, and, in some cases, bringing critical processes in-house.

"We learned that the cheapest supply chain is not worth much if it breaks," one supplier executive said. The adjustments add cost but reduce the risk of a single failure halting production.

Industry analysts say the region's dense cluster of interconnected suppliers is both a strength and a vulnerability, and that resilience has become as important as efficiency.
