Massive Distribution Center Planned Near Edgerton Logistics Hub
A national retailer will build a distribution center at the intermodal logistics park south of Kansas City, promising hundreds of jobs.
A national retailer announced plans to build a large distribution center at the intermodal logistics park near Edgerton, adding to a cluster of warehouses that has transformed the rural stretch south of Kansas City into a freight powerhouse.
The facility will take advantage of the park's rail connections and proximity to interstate highways, allowing goods to move quickly across the central United States. Company officials said the center is expected to employ several hundred workers once fully operational.
"Location is everything in logistics, and this park sits at the crossroads of the country," a company representative said. The development continues a decade-long boom that has made Johnson and Miami counties a major distribution corridor.
Local officials tout the property tax revenue and jobs, though some residents have raised concerns about truck traffic and strain on rural roads.
